What a great introduction to a new superhero series!Fire Dreamer is a well-written short story, which takes place at Rosemont Academy. Rosemont is not unlike Xavier’s Institute For Higher Learning from X-Men, where young people who possess superhuman abilities learn to master them.
The story is told from the point of view of Siuri, a teenage pyrokinetic who has a habit of waking up in a bed of flames. The reader is given a glimpse into her tragic past and walks with her as she learns how to bridle her power, almost quite literally. The author has a talent for creating vivid images, and the form Siuri’s power takes is beautifully described and original. I could picture the manifestation of her power perfectly. Awe-inspiring.
I look forward to getting to know Siuri and other characters better in future installments. Considering her power and the uber-cool way it manifests, I can imagine intense and memorable fight scenes with super villains in her future. If forced to say something negative about this story, it would be that Fire Dreamer left me hungry for more. It ended too quickly!
5-stars for this creative and engaging short story, a taste of the exciting things to come from Rosemont Academy.
